Another long day

The news out of Iran has quieted down after the presidential elections there last friday. Latest report is 17 dead and hundreds injured.

President Obama seems to be handling his new job as well as can be expected. That's not an endorsement (or condemnation) of his policies but more of an assessment of his demeanor. My own concerns center on the economy and inflation as well as the wisdom of "bailing out" the banks and industrial giants such as General Motors.

My frustration with government is that government itself is so expensive. Too much redundant bureaocracy in my opinion. And congress seems to be more interested in micro solutions versus macro (read that to mean they take care of themselves, then other things).

I've worked on a few political campaigns in my day, from Nixon's reelection campaign in 1972 to supporting the local democrats in the local unicipal elections as recently as nov 2007.

Perhaps the smartest politician I ever knew said the dumbest political thing I ever heard...
I suggested that govt should be run more like a business, with a critical eye on overhead. The politico responded that you cant run govt like a biz.....i began to see the problem at that very moment. I cant think of any enterprise that doesn't have a fiduciary duty to itself, perhaps none more than govt.

It's late, I'm tired and that's it for today.

Good night.

Welcome

Its getting late on a mid June Friday night and I am just finishing up my new blog. Wanted to post a quick welcome and thank you for stopping by, not that anyone will ever read this. In fact I am counting on that to some small degree, since I intend to use this blog for a variety of reasons including venting, asking questions, keeping a real time journal of my life and exploits and, eventually I suspect, a confession or two. Yes, I am a sinner but also a lot of other things too.

Have a good night and thanks again for stopping by.
